Eastern Mediterranean University, Department of Fine Arts Education has been founded in 2006 and graduated its first graduates in 2010. There is only Music Teaching Education Programme in the department. The courses provided to the undergraduate students are given into three different areas; subject matter courses, vocational courses and liberal education courses. Each student requires to play an instrument which is appropriate to his/her individual characteristics through 4 years. In addition, piano is a must instrument that need to be played during the study years. During the first two years the student-teachers take individual voice training courses and choral training during the education. In the graduation year of the programme, the students are sent to the schools for observations and teaching experiences.
There are five available classes for collective courses with air conditioners, video and DVD players,study rooms with 10 pianos and mirrors one in every three student-teachers, one Petrof full grand piano and two Yamaha baby grand pianos to be used in concerts, nine digital pianos for technology supported music education, classrooms with OHP and data-projectors and guitars, cellos, violins, violas, flutes and recorders, organ, accordions, mandolins, orff instruments, percussion instruments, drums and cymbal sets, brass bells and baglamas to be used in classes of the teacher candidates.
