Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ministry of National Education signed a collaboration protocol regarding the “Philosophy Teaching Group Certificate Program”. The signing session of the said protocol took place on Monday, 17 February 2025 at 09:30 a.m. at the EMU Rector’s Office building where EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç and Ministry of National Education, Department of Education and Training’s Director Murad Aktuğ put their signatures to the protocol.
Present during the signing session were; EMU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe, Dean of EMU Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Ahmet Pehlivan, Vice Dean of the faculty and the Head of Department of Elementary Education Assist. Prof. Dr. Hatice Nilay Hasipoğlu, Vice Dean and the Head of Department of Foreign Language Education Assist. Prof. Dr. Fatoş Erozan, the Head of Department of Educational Sciences Prof. Dr. Canan Perkan Zeki and Turkish Education Board member Yonca Karaca.

The signed collaboration protocol seeks to establish guidelines for the Philosophy Group Teaching Certificate Program for TRNC citizens, covering areas such as program level, student admission, curriculum, assessments, and graduation requirements.
A First in TRNC
Delivering a speech during the signing session, Prof. Dr. Pehlivan underscored that the ‘Philosophy Teaching Group Certificate Program’ led by EMU, would be the first of its kind to be introduced in the TRNC. He also expressed his hopes for it to contribute positively to the education system.

Also expressing that the certificate program will be a first in the TRNC, Murad Aktuğ, the Director of Department of Education and Training, touched on the importance of the said program on meeting the criteria for becoming a Philosophy Group teacher, noting that it ensures all the necessary qualifications for teacher appointments are fulfilled.
On the other hand, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Kılıç stated that, as the EMU, they strive to contribute to the country by working in collaboration with governmental institutions. Prof. Dr. Kılıç emphasized his belief that the ‘Philosophy Group Teaching Certificate Program’ would significantly contribute to the education sector. Prof. Dr. Kılıç also conveyed his hope for the continuation and growth of similar collaborations and wished for the cooperation protocol to be fruitful. At the end of the signing session, Prof. Dr. Kılıç presented a plaque to Murad Aktuğ, Director of the Department of Education and Training, in recognition of his support.
